Enter we must into the Core of the One

And breathe the Eye of sovereign Absolute.

Him we desire and Him we love and serve

And Him to manifest our earth descent.

No, not our choice Nirvana’s height and depths.

No, not our choice the Superman’s world surprise.

No, not our choice Heaven’s rare splendour-smile.

But God blossoms in the world throes and penuries;

God blossoms all-where on earth, our choice supreme.

Sri Chinmoy Recites this Poem.

Notes:

1. This is a rare excerpt from Sri Chinmoy’s unfinished epic, begun in India in 1948. He worked on it extensively over the next few years, but it seems he did not continue with the project after he came to the West in 1964. On 24 November 1995, Sri Chinmoy was inspired to set the above portion to music, thus giving us a rare glimpse of the striking power that the poem embodies. Like Sri Aurobindo’s “Savitri”, this epic is also written in unrhymed iambic pentameter.

2. The recording of Sri Chinmoy’s recitation is from My Prayerful Salutations To The United Nations CD 4, released in 1996.
