This grainy reproduction is the only known photograph of Sri Chinmoy (right) on his first visit to the Daibutsu (Great Buddha) at the Kōtoku-in temple in Kamakura, Japan.
He writes two poems, ‘The Home of Awakened Mankind’ and ‘To Kamakura’, both later published in My Salutation to Japan. While in Kamakura, he also visits the home of Roshi Philip Kapleau (author of the Three Pillars of Zen) and his family.
